About Galiano

Galiano Island
Welcome to Galiano Island, the closest, second largest Gulf Island and the driest in the chain. This long, narrow island was named after the Spanish explorer Dionisio Galiano, who sailed these waters in 1792.

Discover the beautiful provincial parks, including Bellhouse Park on Active Pass, Montague Harbour Marine Provincial Park, and Dionisio Point Park, which all offer stunning views of Porlier Pass. Don’t forget to visit our community parks, including Bluff Mt, Galiano Mt, and beaches with shore access.

History
Galiano Island has a rich history, with long habitation by aboriginal people from the Penelakut First Nation and other Coast Salish nations. Midden pits at Montague Harbour suggest 3,000 years of habitation. Today, there is one Indian Reserve at the north end located at the northern tip under Penelakut administration.

Golf
Visitors are welcome at the well-maintained golf course at the Galiano Golf & Country Club, and the clubhouse features a licensed restaurant.
